Gagh
A Klingon delicacy made of a kind of worms, which are mostly served alive. Neelix prepared Gagh for visiting Klingon pilgrims in 2377.

Galicite
A mineral used in Federation
warp coils.

Gamma Quadrant
An area of the Milky Way to the left of the Delta Quadrant. The Dominion resides here and the Bajoran wormhole ends up in this quadrant.

Gas Giant
A gas giant is a planet that has no solid surface, is surrounded by a large number of moons, and generally emits more energy than it receives from its sun. A gas giant's atmosphere can interfere with starfleet technology.

G-Class Planet
The surface on these planets are still crystallizing. Only single-celled organisms can live on these planets and the atmosphere consists of carbon dioxide and some toxic gases. They become either a K, L, M, N, O or P-class planets When they cool down.

Gel Packs
The gel packs on Voyager speed up response time and organize information more efficiently than standard isolinear circuitry. The
bioneural cells in Gel packs cannot be replicated. They can be infected by viruses and bacteria just like any other organic organisms. Many critical systems are dependant on gel packs to function properly.

Graviton Particle
An elementary particle that are used in
tractor beams to tow objects outside the ship. Graviton particles enhance the structural strength of the objects undergoing towing.

Grethor
The Klingon hell. The dishonored dead travels to Grethor on The Barge of the Dead over The River of Blood. The Barge, piloted by
Kortar, takes the dishonored souls through the gates guarded by a Klingon demon.

Holodeck
Technology that combines transporter, replicator, and holographic systems.
Holo emitters project programs within a specially outfitted but otherwise empty room. The holodeck can create both holographic props, characters and background to create a holographic senario based on real or fictional parameters. The Holodeck are used both for personal R&R and for tasks like scientific simualtion and tactical training.

Holodeck program
A holographic senario programmed to simulate an environment based on given parameters.

Holographic Emitters
Hardware which projects the program in the holodeck.

Hypospray
A medical instrument that uses compressed air to inject medicine without puncturing the skin of a patient. A canister containing the chosen medication is inserted into the hypospray. The same hypospray can be used on multiple patients without spreading blood-borne deceases. The hypospray can inject through clothing but the side of the neck is most common place for injections.

Impulse Drive
A propulsion system, which is a lot slower than warp drive, that is mainly used to travel short distances. The impulse drive is powered by a
fusion reacton. A starship must have Warp technology to go to faster-than-light speed.

Inertial Dampeners
Technology that helps keeping a starship steady when going from impulse speed to warp and vice versa, when a ship is attacked by other ships or affected by different stellar phenomena.

Inversion Nebula
A naturally occuring phenomenon, which emits plasma string flare-ups. This kind of nebula is unstable and will, according to Federation astro theory, burn out within a few years. The Voyager crew encountered an inversion nebula in the Delta Quadrant that was centuries old.

Ion Storm
A phenomenon which bombards an area of space with ion particles. These storms can be very dangerous for people and ships in the vicinity.

Jeffries Tubes
Maintenance tubes that runs through the entire ship. Many systems can be accessed through panels in these tubes.

Jimbalian fudge
Chocolate cake that Neelix baked for Kes' second birthday.

Kal-Toh
Vulcan chess that trains players mental disciplin and helps them to find the seeds of order even in the midst of profound chaos. Tuvok thinks that "Kal-Toh is to chess as chess is to tic tac toe"

Kelvin
The Kelvin temperature scale measures an object's temperature above absolute zero, the theoretical coldest possible temperature (when all motion within an atom ceases). Ice melts at 273 K (0° C, 32° F); water boils at 373 K ( 100° C, 212° F).

Kessik IV
Non-Klingon colony planet. B'Elanna Torres lived with her mother at Kessik IV before and after her human father, John Torres, left them.

Kortar
Klingon legend suggests that Kortar was the first
Klingon. He and his mate destroyed the gods who created them and turned the heavens into ashes. For this he was punished by eternally ferry The Barge of the Dead, leading to Grethor

Lcars
Short for "Library Computer Access and Retrieval System". It's the name of the main computer in Federation starships.

L-Class Planet
Rocky and barren planets with limited surface water. few plants grow here but it can sustain humanoid life. The atmosphere consists of Oxygen, Aragon and a high concentration of carbon dioxide. Vaadwaur Prime is an L-class planet.

Leola Root
A very nutricious dark-yellowish root with a bitter flavour, which Neelix uses a lot when reserves are low. Some dishes, which aren't very popular among the crew, containing the root are Leola root stew and Leola Root Soup.

Light-Year
A light-year measures the distance that light can travel in one year. Light moves at a velocity of about 300,000 kilometers each second. So in one year, it can travel about 9,500,000,000,000 kilometers.
